Robin Nance Metz
Robin’s Personal Interview
Get to know Robin Nance Metz. Her colorful and humorous work might disguise some of the tragedies of her life that she discusses in this 16-minute interview. Hear, in her own words, how her home was always artful, but maybe not always picture perfect. To her great credit and as a testimony to her strong and generous spirit (and for our pure unadulterated enjoyment) Robin has chosen a joyful path for us to happily follow along.

Work days punctuated with laughter,
Mornings and evenings sharing time on the porch
Watching the birds, squirrels, frogs and turtles in the yard we all share
Appreciating passage of time and the promise of another day as the sun sets until the following morning’s gifts are revealed

The philosophy…
…that carries Robin Nance Metz through each day?
“Fun, funny, happy,” she says. “I figure there’s too much sadness and strife in the world. I don’t feel like adding to it. I do know there are lots of artists that delve into it and that is fine—good for them that they have an outlet to allow them to contemplate the toughness of this world.
“I’ve had to look at a lot straight on—two children that left this earth before me and an unpredictable illness—and it’s easier for me to focus on the brighter things life offers,” she says.

Robin’s Artistic History
In Her Own Words
1980-2014 During and after college (University of Montevallo and Auburn University) I worked as an illustrator and graphic designer. My favorite clients were the University of Montevallo, Southern Progress, Landmark Calendars and Marcel Schurman greeting cards.
I was nominated for a “Louie” award at the Greeting Card Association in 1994.
I had several one person shows as a painter through the years.
• Lyda Rose Gallery Homewood, Al 1996-2002
• Shorty Cate’s Gallery Fairhope, AL 2002
• Analece Fairhope, AL 2006
• Ellenburg Gallery, Homewood Public Library 1998, 2010, 2014
• Parnell Memorial Library, Montevallo, AL 2013
• Christ Presbyterian Church, Daphne, AL 2007
• As an illustrator and graphic designer, my tools were pen and ink and, watercolor or acrylics and an Apple computer.
2014- to now
Trained as a painter and illustrator my introduction to clay in 2014 has given me a chance to try a new vehicle for my work. The Platter is the closest thing to an actual canvas and the easiest to adapt what I already knew to another medium. I also hand build vases and add carving and glazing that is a throwback to my illustrations and paintings.
